World Colors
I thought of World Colors on a Sunday morning, during church service. Our pastor was preaching about compassion that morning. During his sermon, a picture came up on the screen behind him. It was of the first Haiti mission trip our church had gone on. In the picture was the Haiti mission team, consisting of about ten people, with Haitian workers and children around them, and a small house behind them. That house was the first of forty that Haitian workers- and missionaries from other countries- were going to build, in a project called, what other than, "Project Haiti." It wasn't much- about 16' by 16', with a slanted roof (for rainfall), a door, and two windowss, but a home was just about the greatest thing you can give a Haitian. My Mom had gone on that mission trip, and you can read more about that in "Haiti," and it had touched her life and her heart, and she was in love with Haiti. Even though I've never been, she told us so much about it that I'd felt like I'd been there anyways! And, once she'd gotten back, and told us countless stories and about things that had happened there, I'd decided I wanted to help. So, I created World Colors. At first I'd wanted to call it "Compassion," because that's what our pastor had been preaching about the day I'd thought of it, but, in the end, it turned out to be World Colors, because no matter what your talent is, or where you come from, or what color skin you have, we're all humans, and we're serving one Lord.
"We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, then do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully."
Romans 12:6-8 (NIV)
